Hey there.
I think the problem is YOU sold this to us as a "short film" it isn't. It's an FX test fuck around.
Now if you would have said "me and a mate have just completed a silly little fx test. Would you take a look and tell me what you think about the fx/editing"
I'm sure people would have ignored the shitty acting and story and just gave you crits on the technique.
Everyone can undersatand people doing something quick just to stretch their filmmaking muscles. And fx tests seem to be the most polular way.
As it is you said it was a short film. People expected more. They didn't get it.
No point in telling us AFTER the fact that it was meant to be stupid and fun and an excuse to do "cool" fx.
Despin out.
